i read your links but they seemed very old.
I used to think the same way about macs mainly because my only experiences where with the old ones.7.5 version of teir os to be exact .
my cousin has one of these and let me tell you that they definiteky suck.
but now that apple has migrated to mac os X,their os makes more sense, and because it's based on freebsd,it's more stable.
the new g5 should make a lot of difference, and the fact that they are working closely with ibm, which we should remember brought us the pc in the first place, makes me thyink that while macs aren't gonna be as popular as pc's anytime soon, they will definitely grow in market share

I don't think Apple sucks, in fact I would like to have one of those new G5's. The G5 can use up to 8GB of RAM, has PCI-X (faster PCI), it's suppossed to be extremely quiet, it has firewire 800, and a 1GHZ front-side bus for the processor. I know the processor is a little slow at 2GHZ, but I'm on a 600MHZ Celeron, so 2GHZ would be smokin' for me. Also, you have to remember, Macs are usually used for specific things like Photoshop, video stuff, and things like that, whereas PC's are mainly used for less professional stuff like word processing, games, and stuff like that.

g5 is supposed to be faster than a daul xeon 3.0..so i don't think slow:) ..and of xourse i would like one of those...when the amd64 comes out i don't think the difference will be so great

Supposed to be.
Isn't.
They cheat on the benchmarks by optimizing commands for certain benchmarks to get insanely good results for one or two benchmarks, making the overall scores seem really fast, when across the board the benchmarks are mediocre.
And I'd love to see the Dual G5's beat Quad-Itaniums, which would be around the same price I bet

I know the processor is a little slow at 2GHZ
common misconception intruduced to the general public by Intel... CPU should not be measured (only) by their clock speed, there are several other things that come into play when determining the "fasteness" of a processor. Things like FSB speed, instructions per clock cycle, memory , ... , and several other technologies makers implement on their chips.
Now I'm no expert on mac's (or even pc for that matter) but there must be a reason why most ppl who work with multimedia (image, sounds etc) prefer in general a mac to a PC. Right? I mean it's certainly not because it's cheaper...

mac is technically better b/c of the linear graphics(i think that's what it is). But with the advancements in graphics cards for the IBM-compatible PC..........more people are seeing that Mac doesn't have the edge anymore, whey do you think Apple invested bazillions of dollars on new hardware for their models rolling off the shelves now. Also, the new processor that the G5 uses, although it has a 1Ghz system bus, the P4 2.6Ghz with hyper threading still whips it (the p4 also has a dual fsb running now at 800mhz, so dual of that equals 1.6Ghz....technically).
And as for OS X..........my 133 with windows 95 was more stable than OS X. I am a huge linux fan as well as freebsd, but i despise OS X . My friend across campus wrote a better linux distribution than OS X could ever amount to in stability. Oh, as for my links and the old pics as someone dually noted...........that is just to show why Apple is the corporate failure that they are today. Microsoft may be the epitimy
of the 'law bending' idiots we have all come to know, but they put out a fine product.

Mac OS X is to Mac what Windows XP is to Windows.
It's a stable, reliable, and somewhat convenient version of an OS which was previously none of those.
I still loathe Mac for, among other things, their refusal to widely use two button mice, though. It drives me bonkers.

Ok...you guys are wrong about many things. First off, mac's don't suck they are very very good.
They display it on their website: Mac's Don't Crash . It's a fact. Their Unix system is very very stable and therefore you'll never see a blue screen of death.
Professionals use macs because they're reliable and artsy. Look at a mac compared to a pc. They look a million times better.
Also, you can use a USB 2 button mouse if you'd like on a mac and then you can have your 2 button mouse. It will all work.
sorry i'm writing sloppily i'm just really tired. Check out www.imac.com. At the time of this writing I'm saving up for an imac for web development. They're awesome. -Matt

I have never used a Mac very much, but from everything I read and heard, they are excellent, especially for graphics. How often do you hear of Mac having to patch their software for security reasons like M$ does? I think to totally dismiss them as an option is not being open minded. Besides, if Mac, Linux, etc could become more competitive with Uncle Bill's little company, it would force M$ to put out a better product. Don't you think? Competitiion is great for we the consumer. ;)

in my opinion, the only thing apple/macs are good for, are multimedia. they are much better at importing, and editing multimedia files than a pc.
