Hi everyone. I was a member of UTC before it changed hands and am happy to have the UTC site back! Anyway, I had posted a problem that I had a while back about a program that altered my host files and am curious if anyone can help me with this again. I need to reinstall my windows so the fix was lost. Now, I'm running windows 98 again (XP wasn't compatible with my computer) and when i re-downloaded Kazaalite++ it altered my host file again and I cannot remember how to fix this.......can anyone help?

Tracy

well, if K++ is causing you trouble, I would get rid of it completely.

Next I would make sure that everything else on win98 is working correctly.

Finally I would reinstall it again, a total and clean reinstall...

SOrry if this doesnt help, but its what I would attempt to do...

I have uninstalled kazaa completely.....was hoping there was another fix i could use to do this without reinstalling windows again. Is there anywhere where there are archived messages from here? It would have been from about 3 months ago.

yeah! Check www.pctechtalk.com and do a search for your user name or for your problem.

In the merge we were able to save about 95% of the discussions.

I didnt mean reinstalling windows, just uninstall Kazaa and fix and errors in windows, and finally reinstall it ;)

Good luck and when you find the answer be sure to post the link to it back here so we can help other people with the same problem ;)

lol.....ok.....thx fister.....but now, (yes, i'm somewhat of a novice here) how do I fix the errors in windows?

what is happening is that when I try to go to a sight (like Pogo.com) the rooms won't open for me. This may not have anything to do with the host files at all, but it was working fine before I installed K++

Couldn't you just un-edit the HOSTS file?

You could try making a new hosts file.

Make HOSTS.txt, keep it empty, then remove the extension.

Or just move the hosts file from the windows directory.

Better yet, you could seach your hosts file for pogo.com, and remove all references to it in the file, and save it.

Open the hosts file with a txt view (notpad would be fine)
