i thought i would try this but i get this on start, initrd extends beyond end of memory(0x0f7f753f>0x0f7f0000) kennal panic :vfs: unable to mount root fs on 01:01 any ideas

Are you trying to run Knoppix off the CD or install it on the hard drive? And for Yoda, you can download Knoppix off of linuxiso.com.

Okay, if running it off the CD is giving you trouble (it gives a lot of people that same error) the only thing I know to try would be installing to a hard drive (if you have a spare 2nd hard drive laying around.) Also, how much memory do you have?

(by the way Linuxiso.ORG is the address to download it, not .COM, sorry about that.)

i have 256 of ram but no spare hard drive

Well, you have enough memory to run Knoppix, the minimum required I think is only 32mb. I think the best way to solve your problem would be to go to Knoppix.net and check their site out for more help. There's probably some memory command you could put in to boss Knoppix around so it will boot, but I don't have enough experience in Linux to help out with that, so read their site and their forums to see what you can find out.

could this have anything to do with it my windows hd is running on ntfs just a tgought

Knoppix is known to have trouble reading NTFS partitions, so that could be why it doesn't want to mount the file system like it says.
