Video stops but sound continues to play

OK, this has happened to me with about 3 or 4 video files I d/l from Overnet. They are all divx 5. The file will play normally for about 4 or 5 seconds, then the video freezes and the sound continues. I have run g-spot on all these files and it says I have the codecs to play them. I have tried all my video players and the files do the same thing.


Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like they are corrupted. Did you try using "DivFix?" It will tell you if there are errors, and usually you can cut out the bad parts. Sometimes if will work, sometimes it won't, just make sure you back up the original files just in case. ;)

Or a more time wasting way, is to dl the same subject but different file on Overnet.

sometimes quicktime does that to me
(I know that player is garbage but i need it to play some files),
I've found out that it does this because it takes too much cpu power (100%)
maybe that could be your problem,maybe?

Yup, sure is. 6 divx avis. I just had 2 more last night. It is getting a bit frustrating. I am saving them in case I figure out the problem..........

OK, Problem solved!


I had previously tried uninstalling and reinstalling my codec pack (Ace) and nothing changed. Today I read about a codec pack I hadn't tried so I uninstalled Ace and put in K-Lite codecs pack (http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm) and viola'! It worked on all the problematic videos.
