My sister has a dell 1.7 ghrz celeron . i think she should sell it or get her money back from dell , she spent $799 for this piece of crud . I couldve built this pc for $150 from parts on ebay . Here are my questions

1. Will dell refund the money , its still under warrenty and keeps crashing anyway (hardrive failure , says theres not enough memory when a small program is opened 0_o?

2. should she just go with a mac , since she needs it for school (design ) and buy the mac off of apple or ebay ?

3. Should she just sell the whole pc on ebay as a complete pc ? will we get atleast what she spent for it ?

also , she had a dell techie come here and they had to use troobleshooter on windows.. didnt college teach these people how to use a pc ?

above question is sorta off topic but its just strange ..

If it's still under Warranty & Dell has come out a few times to fix it, ask them about replacing the system..I think Rasta has done this once before.
IMO, if she needed a MAC for school, why did she by a Dell? I have heard that Dell has an excellent reputation with there costumers.

celerons are the worst and cheapest .I have an amd athlon xp at home that i built for only $250 . anyhow , She bought the pc before she had decided about school .out of all the sellers of big name pc's , i do like dell . I just think budget wise and since i already know how to build them , that this would be the best move.

do you even think we can get the money back and send the pc back , or should we just sell it on ebay ?

I don't think that they will give your money back, just exchange...but I'm not sure on this...try Ebay or Half.com..if you don't want to Auction it off.

If it has problems out of the gate, and you're completely unhappy with it, why would you sell it to somebody else? I also don't understand why you think you should be able to recoup the entire amount of money you spent off some unsuspecting person.

you got that whole thing wrong there ...

the reason its having errors is the parts are cheap (hardrive may have been refurbed ) and not worth that money but some people want the name brand cause they feel secure for some reason . so maybe it will go to use for somone who just wants to do celeron kind of stuff . the only thing that has to be taken out and not sold is the hardrive . everything else is fine in the pc . trust me i wouldnt cheat anyone , i have already been cheated on ebay for $500 . im not selling the corrupt hardrive with the pc if i do sell it on ebay.

I had a friend with a similar problem. Dell does have a reasonably good customer service policy, but it would seem, only after you prove to them that you know what your talking about. He too, had a corrupt hard drive and it took him half a dozen phone calls before they agreed to replace it. Call them back and tell them to replace it if it's corrupt. I also don't think you'll get that kind of money for a Celeron through e-Bay. Probably better to hang onto it and get Dell to clean up they're mess.

yeh , im just gonna stick to the warrenty . its there , use it eh ...

i can sell it int he classifieds though ... without hardrive ofcourse ... atleast for 400 .. i can build an amd athlon xp for little money ... people should just build their own pc's . its soooooo much cheaper...

The problem is this is a budget PC. No matter who your sister bought it from, it has very limited capabilities.

I bought my Dell about 5 years ago. It was my very first PC and by that I mean I had never even touched a mouse before. I had trouble form the gate, but knowing absolutely nothing about computers, I just kept calling tech support and fixing things piecemeal.

After about a year and a half of this, I felt confident enough that I knew it wasn't all my fault. I had called tech support by this time dozens of times. They finally came out and replaced the entire guts of the computer, HDD, memory, MoBo, CPU, etc. The tech told me if I still had problems after this they would replace it. I still had problems and they offered to give me a factory reconditioned computer. I pushed for a new one and to make a long story short, I finally got them to give me one. I got an upgrade in the deal cause 1 1/2 years had passed, but it had a bad video card. When I called tech support, they offered to send me another new one (new computer) immediately, and within a week I had a good one. It was a very good computer, I just recently replaced it. It took a bit of wrangling but they came through.

The difference with yer sis's computer is, mine was absolutely top of the line. (at the time it cost almost $3000) I think they might give her a factory reconditioned replacement, which might not be a bad deal if she can get away from the Celeron.

All- in-all, you can't beat Dell for service, although you can build one yerself if you don't need tech support for a lot less money.........

That's the key, PUSH...Don't take no for an answer, and if they pull they're fast talk routine, quote directly from the return policy and warranty card. Building your own is a good option but I picked up my current computer at an office auction. Just check your local classifieds for auctions in your area and check it out. I got mine about ten months ago- AMD athlon, 1.7Gig, 60Gig HD, 256 Mg Ram, 64 Mg Riva-TNT Video, CD-DVD-rom, CD Writer, no OS and I upgraded my Ram, brand new in the box for $350.00Can, probably about $260.00 US. Keep nagging Dell until they come through.

if you live in the uk buy an issue of pc plus. go to the problem pages, nearly every week there is a page dedicated on how they are screwing people around.
