Is there anyway easy way to get these d/l programs to work while conected to a network. Cause I've tried them all and none seem to work.

There are a couple things to try.
First, try K++ (DEFINANTLY NOT REGULAR KAZAA, Spyware issues alone, Regular KaZaA didn't work on UF's network, wheras K++ did, I'm assuming because the packet shapers were homing in on some of the spyware, rather than actual connection headers) on a different port.
If that doesn't work, try WinMX on a secondary connection.
If THAT doesn't work, try Gnutella (I'd recommend BearShare) on port 80.
Good Luck.

Hi
For the past three years I've worked in a large university computer room. The Uni spends a fortune to try to stop you doing this for several reasons.
1 They have to be VERY careful about copywrite infringements
2 If everyone o the network did it, then the main server would collapse in a very short time.
3 It uses valuable band-width which for some reason they think should be available to thos who want it for study related matters
4 The battle to defend a large network incoming viruses is VERY fierce. So downloading is an unacceptable risk.
So, really you'd be doing everyone a favour if you stopped trying.
HOWEVER. YES THERE IS A WAY. If you have any access rights to save onto the main server (which you do have if you can use Pop-mail from outside the system OR if you can access your files through a 'drop-box' from outside the system) then use that space as the folder for your download engine. Of course it may be more limited in size than you would have on your own computer at home.
Do you have to log on to your network to use the facility? This log-on identifies you on every file you create! If you try this but kufc it up, then the technicians will not be your friends. Where I work, students have been barred from the facilty for breaking their user-agreements in precisely this way.
Why not just do it at home... easier... faster ... less disruptive to everyone...

PS
Just in case you didn't know...
Many large networks (especially in Education) don't erase your logon if you leave (Its just too much of a chore). It just automatically expires after not being used for a while. But if an old logon is kept open for those occasional little unauthorised uses....

You can try this http://www.htthost.com/index.htm
HTTPort3
HTTPort allows you to bypass an HTTP proxy, which is blocking you from the Internet. With HTTPort you may use the following software (just a sample list, not limited to !) from behind an HTTP proxy: e-mail, IRC, ICQ, news, FTP, AIM, any SOCKS capable software, etc. etc.
The basic idea is that you set up your Internet software in such a manner, that it considers your local PC to be a remote server it needs. This is where HTTPort enters. It intercepts connection from this software and runs the connection through the proxy - this is called a tunneling.

This link from the FAQ make reference to WinMX working with this software.

good Luck!;)

Welcome to the herd, brane_sell. It sounds like good advice to me. I'm not sure downloading music would be worth risking a college education over. But then again I never got one in the first place and would give ennything to have one.........
And welcome back AweShucks, good to see ya again............

use Ares. it bypasses 85% of college firewalls. Use port hopping software or port tunnling software, HTTProxy is an example of one.
I started writing a FAQ on this exact subject but it got killed because of a lack of cooperation + I dont have that problem at my school. Canadian unviersities limit you to 1 Gig/day and they let you DL whatever you want...:guitar: :rockband:
