after posting my computer refuses to boot to or from anything. It usually will just stop... not neccisarily lock up, as usually I can still alt-ctrl-del, but it will freeze for all other intended purposes. Trying to boot off a boot disk results in a freeze after "starting ms-dos..." when my cd-rom drive is unplugged and a freeze after it loads the "banana" cdrom driver when it is plugged in. I have tried two different bootdisks and two different cdrom drives. Once so far when I try to boot off a win 2k cd it will get to the blue screen where it loads files and fully locks up at (QLogic QLA2100, 64 bit PCI-Fibre Channel Adapter), but usually it just stops at a black screen after I "press any key to boot from cdrom".

I have tried two different hdds, both of which had os installed on them. One windows xp (wd 120gb) and the other windows me (ibm 12gb). Both froze during the original attempt to boot and so now I get the screen asking me which type of boot I would like to try (safemode, normal, etc.) on the me hdd it locks up as soon as i scroll up or down to choose an option (but i can still alt-ctrl-del, but cant scroll or anything) and the xp freezes at a black screen immediately following my hitting enter on a choice, although sometimes it loads a few drivers. So it would seem that when an os is trying to load it locks up. Not having any real idea how to fix this I have tried different video cards and different ram sticks just for kicks, all to no avail. I apologize for the length of this post, but having no idea what the problem is I am forced to just give as much info as I can.

If you have any thoughts at all, please do not hold back, thank you.

Is the CPU overheating? AMDs are notorious for running hot. Really hot. Make sure there is proper air flow in and out of the case and the CPU cooling fan is running at the right speed. Make sure the heatsink is not coated with dust (Do NOT vacuum. Blow the dust) and is tight against the chip. Have you tried to revert the bios to the previous flash? If still no go, remove every card and disconnect every drive except a known good video card, floppy drive and minimal ram and try to boot.

...sounds virus related to me...scan your system with an updated antivirus program .

AntiVir is freeware and works quite good.

viruses can be transferred...no harm in running an antivirus program just to exclude that as being the cause.

If he can't boot, he can't run anything. If it were me, I would try clearing CMOS. then return everything on motherboard to factory specs. The scariest part of his post. "recently flashed".IMHO. is probably the root of his problem.
