I have recently been trying to convert an .avi file to VCD for the first time and have used the "TMPGEnc: AVI or D2V to VCD" from http://www.dvdhelp.us/. I followed everything in the tutorial and when i click "start" to begin the encoding process this message appears:
"For encode mode, 3:2 pulldown when playback can not be used if the flame rate is not 23.976fps or 24fps"
Any clues on what to do??

so i guess your video is NTSC, because those framerates are for PAL.
make sure you look for optinos that say PAL, and switch those to NTSC

Ah ok, thanks its working now :)
BTW do you know how to speed up the process, currently it is going to take 37 hours!
My Spec is:
P4 2.4Ghz
512 3700 DDR RAM
Hercules Radeon 9700
80GB WD HD
14.7GB Samsung HD
Ive tried switching around the task priorities but it still takes around 30 hours. Could be because i am currently using BT?

u shouldnt use any programs while your doing it but it wont make that much of a difference. i have no idea how long it should take actually but tmpeg is pretty slow
hope its worth the effort~!

holy ??it!!
37 hours???? something wrong there!! I've used tmp hundreds of times and my system seems much the same as yours and for me its max 6 or 7 hours!!!
do you have several filters going?? every change you make to the file increases the time it takes to complete!!
there is also a few other programs you might like to try!!
canopus procoder is the best one I've used(to this point) I set it at ""mastering"" quality and it takes about 6 to 8 hours but the result is very close to the actual DVD!!
and lately I've tried one called winDVD creator that does a very good job and very quickly(almost real time) but you have little or no control over the output file!!
also,,, another thought!! to encode video files it takes a ?uck of a lot of drive space, and of course the less you have the slower your system will go!! I have 120 gigs of space, and this is really only just enough if you plan on working with a lot of video files!! so if you can,,,,try to pick up another 80 gig drive or something!!
hope this helps you at all!!

I've used TMPEGenc for encoding avi to svcd, and the encode time has generally been like 2- 4 hours, and i usually run like 3 at a time. my specs are pentium 1.8, 512 DDR, so, i have no idea why its taking so long. did you use virtual dub for the audio? some of that time could be uncompressing the audio and lining it up, but other than that, i don't know, i always go with an avi video file and a wav file generated from virtual dub (it only takes like maybe 5 min to rip the audio) maybe try that. the site that i always go to is vcdhelp.com

oh yea, my hard drive is only 40 gigs, with only about 10 that i keep free, HD space probably doesn't have much to do with this problem, it has never made anything slower for me... unless i'm being stupid and don't realize that i don't have enough room for somethin, but 10 gigs is enough to fit 2 full dvds. its all i've needed.
