Ive been wondering if 85Hz is the best setting for my 17" CRT monitor because on a lot of hardware sites the monitors are set at this refresh rate. My monitor is capable of reaching 120Hz and i am wondering if i raise it will the display quality be comprimised?

Settings will vary based on your hardware and sometimes your surroundings (i.e. if you're near flourescent lighting) :)

A quick search on Google for "optimal refresh rates" turned up plenty of links on it. Here's a few that may help you understand it better :)

Link1 (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/crt/res.htm) Link2 (http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/stepone/story/0,24330,2337563,00.html)

Your best bet is to dig up the documentation on your monitor and video card. From there it's all about experimentation. Personally, if I'm not noticing any sort of flicker I don't mess with it ;)

Ok thanks, when it was at 85Hz i thought it was flickering a bit so i raised it to 100Hz and it seems fine, so i guess i will leave it.
