Irish teenybopper sensations Westlife are used to cheerily serenading their teenaged fans, but were anything but cheerful when they discovered that they will no longer retain the rights to their name's trademark.
In 2003, the European Union Community Trademark Office permitted the band to trademark the name despite complaints issued by a German firm which contested that the name Westlife was too similar to their trademark, West.
