If you look at the Screenshots of this Client..it shows IPs..not good. Thats why I like Burst, but I know if others use Clients that show IPs..it dosen't matter what I use, cause they can get my IP anyway...IP Clients shouldn't be made.......

Yep, you are absolutely right. I dled it to see, and it easily shopws all IPs. Not only that, when it re hashes a file that you had stopped earlier, it uses so much RAM, that it almost crashed explorer for me. I would avoid this ap. :(

I don't really think it matters much.

If the RIAA/MPAA wan'ts your IP, they'll have it, wether its showing or not.

BT is, of course, completely unsecure.

Maybe. But, there is them diligently seeking it out, and me just handing it over to them easily. I don't plan on doing that. ;)

Guys, you really need to keep in mind that it is fairly easy for the companies (which have been hired by the RIAA, MPAA, etc) to find and use the IPs of Anyone using ANY p2p App. (and before you claim that this is not true read on)

These guys (There are multiple companies, and I cannot right now remember the name of the primary company...if you want I will dig around and find it..but it is really not significant at this point)>>.anyway, these guys at these Security Firms specialize in writing software and poking around. They are experts and, with the exception of top music company execs, the RIAA does not hire idiots.
Be it IRC, the newsgroup servers, p2p apps or even the so-called secure filesharing apps, the IPs of every person using it at a given time can be determined and logged. These guys are using very sophisticated programs and hacks.

What do they do with these IPs?? Easy. They log them into a database which then keeps track of Whatever other data (associated with the IPS) that they can collect.
Number of music files
Names of music files
....well you get the drift.
They simply collect data. In their database. It is then a simple matter for different programs to be run on the database to look for patterns.. What IP downloaded what songs, shared what songs, etc.
Simple matter to put up a few flags and Presto..they can match an IP to whatever criteria is set.
After methodically saving the data, and building up a case...out come the subpoenas with the IPs.
This is all pretty much basic stuff, and these guys are good at cracking the data.

The Advantage of using a "secure" p2p not that your IP is hidden--because it is not. With a few hacks and some programming magic they can get a list of IPs using a particular client at a given time. The advantage is that they cannot tell EXACTLY WHAT you are downloading/sharing. You could be sharing pics of your great aunt bertha for all they can tell. They only know that you are using a particular client at a given time. This causes a problem for them because they cannot add very many specifics to their databases. A lack of specifics means they do not really know for sure that you are downloading the latest BrittanySpeers album. No specifics mean a weak case.

Maybe with the right programmers/hackers they might be able to get into some of the secure apps, but I guess we need to have some faith in the ever advancing area of cryptology.

So, Go forth and use your head if you choose to fileshare. Just don't go sticking your head in the sand and pretending that you are completely anonymous..because you are not. No matter what you do..someone CAN watch, if they really really want to.
And you certainly don't believe that the records your isp keeps are immune from snoopers..do you??

I am neither being Pro or Con.. I am only pointing out the obvious.

..and of course I would just LOVE for one of you Saavy tech guys to be able to tell me I am completely wrong. I really really want to be wrong on this.
But I am not holding my breath.

I certainly can't argue your points there old friend. The only thing I meant to say was, they can take it if they want, but I am not going to give it to them freely, or make it an easier by not taking any/every precautions available to me, no matter how weak or ineffective those precautions may be.

You can bet one thing though. I will never buy another over priced Music CD from these buzzards. (for myself anyway) Like spitting in the ocean to raise the water level? Maybe, but if enough of us did this, we could put a serious hurting on them. They think p2p is what is hurting their sales? Yeah, right. Let's show them what it means to lose money. And I can't wait for the first time they finger the son/daughter/ relative of a judge, congressman etc for illegal file sharing. How much ya wanna bet that the "first daughters" have never shared files on a p2p ap. I would love to be there when "what goes around" ends up coming around. ;)

The RIAA already said they won't sue them . They will be selective in suing.

You should take them to court just for that reason.

The law should be equal for all. If they have to sue ppl who share copyrighted songs then sue everyone, not ignore powerful ppl.
