Intimidated

Having read RoadBlock mention the latest outburst of viruses / worms spreading around, I thought i'd add my perspective.
As some of you know, I have a tendancy to see the alternative viewpoint that might not be popular opinion.
After Sept. 11, I mentioned how I thought it was GOOD in the sense that.. it made the american people more aware that there are people out there who don't like them, and it inspired the American government to finally do something about the terrorist threat!
And the same applies for this worm. This latest outbreak has finally forced some larger ISP's (BT internet, NTLi) to install virus protection on their e-mail servers.
Right here i'm using Freedom2Surf, which provide virus protection on their servers by default. If more ISP's take this route, a simple definition update broadcast (updates can be triggered via e-mail on the best servers) would stop the worm dead in its tracks; it can't get out and it can't get in.
Decent virus protection / spam filtering plugins for corporate e-mail servers are very costly though, not just in the price for the software but the CPU load of the server.
That said though, we need more ISP's to take the same track before this dilemma will cease.
