    K-Lite in Australia

Hi everyone! New guy on the block. Anyway, I am experimenting with various p2p clients, and i've come across FastTrack , and want to try K-Lite. Problem is, Kazaa is illigal in Australia, and to function, K-Lite needs the file kazaa.exe. To install this, i would need Kazaa, but i've found a website that hosts a file called K-exe, which extracts kazaa.exe and magnet.exe to where you want-these are the files that make K-Lite work.

So here's my problem: can I extract K-exe and install K-Lite without breaking any Australian laws, bearing in mind I haven't installed Kazaa Media Desktop, but i'm using the file kazaa.exe. It would be great if someone could answer this. Thanks in advance!

been using ares for 5 min, it's actually pretty good . anyone out there got a DI-624 DLink wireless router and know how to port forward ares with it?

    http://www.portforward.com

By the way, D-Links sucks for routers. Also don't use the lite version of areas, it hasn't been updated in a long time.

how does dlink suck-in a functional or wireless way? what would you suggest i use? i've tried netgear, and it isn't to good either. and i installed the normal version of ares, which is very good.

Just don't use their DMZ mode, that is not the same as gameing. Linksys & Belkin are both good. Netgrear = crap.

i actually never thought of DMZ. does it not work with p2p's? or is it just better suited to games? if i use it, will it make my http/ftp downloads faster (i have hi-speed internet, but everything is blocked off by my router [which i do need] hi-speed as in if i didn't have a router i could download at 1-2 megabytes/sec. or megabites...i know it's the bigger one..)

What part of do not use it did you not understand? And no it won't speed things up, in fact it will make it worse as it (D-links version of DMZ) will corrupt your downloads. As to your question of what DMZ is? That's what a search engine is for.

You don't have to be sorry about asking questions. But you should try to find the answers on your own first. Its really easy to get the info out of a search engine in a matter minutes. Some of the most knowledgeable people in computers spend countless hours just reading and looking things up.

That's why those of us who used Fast Track used the K-Lite versions, meaning spyware free.

Linksys WRT54 router sucks for p2p!

I have a Billion 7402GL which kinda sucks for BT and IRC unless you open up heaps of outbound ports (which is risky).

I wouldn't use a D-Link router at all. Maybe a Belkin one. I only got the Billion because my first router was a Billion 5100 and I'm used to it. Anyways because of my ISP setup I get not connectable errors with Bit Torrent as my ISP uses a level 4 anon proxy server to route all data through. Which is really annoying. So to get connectable I either have to use a public transparent proxy in uTorrent (which can be a real pain) or switch ISPs, which also can be a real pain since my ISP is the most generous with gigabyte caps, it has a soft cap system and only shapes your speed after you go over your limit and their network load is high.

Don't fucking use Kazaa full stop. End of discussion. Use Bit Torrent and eMule. Kceasy is ok. But Kazaa Lite has better fast track support.

Why the fuck do you care about Australian laws? You're breaking copyright laws in Australia so why do you really care about breaking the law with Kazaa?

The Australian government couldn't give two shits about p2p atm. I haven't heard a peep from them about it. They know that people use it to download music to their iPods (or much better decent players like iRivers).

So.. in conclusion. Kazaa sucks, iPods suck, Billion routers sometimes suck, D-Links suck, Linksys WRT54 G (or whatever version it is) sucks. And being a n00b sucks until you learn these things. I used to be a n00b and think Kazaa Lite was the best. Ask any of the senior rank users. They used to say over and over how much it sucked and they were right. I started using Bit Torrent even while I was still on dial-up.

Kazaa wastes bandwidth. If you start to download a file from someone and they go offline. You need to download it again. Where as with Bit Torrent you're not just download a file from just one person. You're downloading pieces of a file from one and more people and uploading back to them at the same time. It's the most efficient network out there. Try getting a 8gb DVD file off Kazaa Lite. See how much fun that is!

Kazaa is full of unverified files. Where as with Bit Torrent and if you use a decent private tracker site. People will nuke the file letting you know not to get it. Even if the actual file is fine but say the movie quality sucks. You won't get that with that Kazaa shit.

If you just want music then get Soulseek donate $5USD with paypal and then you'll be put in the front of the queue and be downloading good decent quality files in now time. Instead of gayly encoded 128 bitrate or other crappy mp3's.

I want good quality LAME mp3 encoded files which are at least preset standard (preset extreme is what I encode mine at). Then again Ogg Vorbis files are great too.

Listen to the people here because no offense mate, but you don't know shit. Once you accept that you don't know shit and take advise from others you won't look back, you'll learn and then in a years time you'll be telling some noob the same thing.
