Another Swiss-based eDonkey2000 link portal, Swissmule, which indexed an array of different media, in the form of text based hashes located on the eDonkey2000 network has been taken offline.
A short message left on Swissmule's home page, roughly translates to "Swissmule is down. The police took the harddisk".
Those who follow the file sharing scene will be familiar with the takedown of ShareReactor, a year ago this month. ShareReactor was the largest site of it kind, based in Switzerland and in operation since 2001. A year on, and ShareReactor is still under investigation by the Swiss authorities and no official word over ShareReactor's legality has ever been made.
Unlike SR and several other indexing pages, Swissmule operated soley as a forum. This is significant because traditionally forums are safer since they're harder to control with thousands of people posting content continuously, with much less obvious structure.
There is currently no information on the takendown provided on any of the relevant Swiss kanton police sites in Swissmule's area. Depending on the specific operating procedures of the kanton where Swissmule is located, the outcome and how the investigation are run could be quite different from the case with ShareReactor.
P2PForums will keep you updated as events unfold.

How can they take down sites indexing ed2k-links even though it shouldn't be illegal in most countries?
Backing of the industry. If you've got enough money and power, whether something is illegal or not can be made totally irrelavant, particularly in Switzerland.Originally Posted by Teurastaja
