This is a discussion on MP2P Users Targeted With Subpoenas within the Digital Media News forums, part of the News Desk category; Well, to put it simply that’s some bad news there. This is a sad day in the p2p community. Hopefully ...

It really is Sad, we all thought we were safe, But i think it was said before If we can Make it Through this, we'll make it through anything and it might actually make the Community Stronger
They are targeting the sharers for now right?
Yay, more leeching.![]()
screw it im gonna continue to share my music, sladly enough after not running my piolet like 5 days i heard this new and now i run it mroe than ever lol.
Same here. I share 24/7 still and I'm not worried the least bit. I disabled the option to allow users to browse my files and I live in Canada, so I'm pretty safe.Originally Posted by jagjohn2000

Living in Canada you should not even have to worry..for now. I am not so sure how much the allow browsing really helps. I suspect it probally a bot that has a list of songs to search for...and simply records info of users with one of those songs.

I'd actually be kind of surprised if the people who come here start getting caught. Like I pointed out in another thread, most of us don't seem to really be big fans of RIAA-owned music (just take a look at that "what are you listening to" thread), so it doesnt seem like most of us should be big targets... Er, well, darktiger does have that Linkin Park collection, heh...

Now, I know nothing about program developing or all the technical stuff behind a p2p program and network, but I thought of something the other day. Probably impossible and totally stupid, but here goes.
What if Piolet/Blubster/RockItNet gave everyone who connected to the network a bogus IP number disguising their real one. The IP number that the client gives everyone could be something like 000.000.000.000. And then make it impossible to track the user's actual IP number, so if someone from the RIAA tried to trace a user's IP number, they'd get 000.000.000.000.![]()

Well, the problem is just that for one computer to connect to another and transfer a file, it needs to know where the other computer is (so to speak). Therefore, at some point you have to use real IP addresses (I guess I could be wrong, but Ive never heard anything to the contrary).
