Does this version fix the problem where you download more than it is supposed to be?
hope not, lolOriginally Posted by atHeart

and does the stealth mode still work in this baby ???![]()
"Add task option: peer info exchange enable"
I like that option, but is not very handy right now: it would be much better if that option also is introduced 'globally' in the normal options dialog and new downloads should take-over that option.
I'd like to disable peer info exchange by default (my trackers do not like this feature) but if I want to override the default I could (re)set this setting in the task.
I just installed 0.58, thrilled that the horrible crashing from 0.57 would be cured.
Alas, it is not. Ten minutes after starting 0.58, crash. Just like 0.57
This problem is killing bitcomet. It just doesn't work any more. I realize you get what you pay for, but I have to assume that the developer isn't just writing this software for himself... how long before it will be even remotely stable again?
Look man, you assume it is a software bug. But you know, it is only possible that it is something in YOUR system that causes this. So it may be wise of you to try the help section of the forum, give more details and maybe someone will help...Originally Posted by jamietre

I agree with rafi_d, it's more likely that something on your system is causing the instability.
BitComet 0.56 used to crash then I got my settings right and it's been great ever since. 0.57 (and now 0.58 ) haven't ever crashed on my system and I'm downloading 24/7. I only reboot around once every 2 weeks as well.
Mine crashes if I set the "Maximum Connections per task" setting too high. You can find it in Options > Preferences > Advanced > Connection. Try changing it to 60 or below for starters. If it no longer crashes, start increasing the number to find what works best for you. I have it set to 100 connections per task and I regularly max out my 1.5mbps connection.
I also had problems with my antivirus software causing BitComet to crash, so I disabled auto-protection on my BitComet install directory and the torrent save location (I scan applications manually)... after doing these things it's stable as a rock.
One last thing that I've done is to run the EventID 4226 patch and change the maximum half-open connections from 10 to 100 (this is only if you're running XP SP2).
It is clearly a software bug. I have read the forum extensively. I have contributed with specific details of the crashes months ago and followed up in those discussions. What more is there to say? It's the same problem. There are dozens of threads on this - many, many people are experiencing this problem.Originally Posted by rafi_d
I am glad it works for you. Should I buy a Pentium III and install Windows 98 so I can use BitComet?
As I said, I realize you get what you pay for. I understand I have no recourse except to not use it. But, as I also said, I assume the author has decided to release this software publically, because he expects other people to use it. So here I am, letting him know that it's still broken.
I agree that something on my system may be related to the problem - but that doesn't mean there isn't a bug. Nothing else crashes, and my configuration is pretty typical.Originally Posted by Dragosani
I have a pretty minimal system running - no antivirus whatsoever, hardly any other background tasks.
I am sure that the crashing has something to do with my configuration - obiously, since others have been able to make it work, it's possible. But software that works for only half the people who use it, and only in specific configurations, is hardly bug free.
I believe it is possible for me to *make* bitcomet work - but I've not been able to do so reliably so far. If setting the number of connections too high causes bitcomet to crash, that's a bitcomet bug.

You are more then welcome to download my config file and try it out. Since you have extensively searched the forum, I'm sure you probably know how and were to look for it...
No thanks... I think I already did that at least 78 times before I upgraded to 2000.Originally Posted by rafi_d
I have not tried your config file and I guess it's worth a shot.. though I've tinkered with every setting under the sun at my end before. Something needs to be fixed if every user needs to spend hours searching the internet and tinkering with settings and un-installing other software just to make it not crash.
