we get a lot of speed questions here, so i am going to clarify a few things.
Public Trackers, also know as leech trackers, are full of people that dont care if you get the file or not. there is no ratio system to keep up with, so the average P2P user is only out for self. most people on these trackers have their upload speed limited and as soon as the file is complete, they are gone.
Private Trackers have and enforce a ratio system. in other words, they make you give back at least as much as you took and if you dont you get BANNED. private trackers are generally on an invite only system and the people that get invited(for the most part) are people who are known to keep a good ratio. people on these sites will utilize their full upload capacity in order to keep their ratios up and will seed for much longer.
this brings me to my next point. the seed to peer ratio has a major effect on your speeds. if the number of peers greatly out numbers the number of seeds, this will generally cause a slow torrent. in order to max out your connection(whatever that might be) you will need to have a good number of seeds with their upload uncapped. a lot private trackers also look for dedicated uploaders with large upload capacity, thus improving the speed of the torrents.
a good place to find private trackers is tazzes-playground. this is community forum with mods from a lot of the private trackers as members. this is also a good way to keep up with the torrent community.

Right on the money mGa.![]()
I am no longer giving out invites to ANY torrent sites. Please do not PM me.
But, I do write articles for an automotive blog.

Ironically, I'm finding it hard to keep a good upload ratio on a private tracker. By the time i decide to download whatever i want, most of the members already have it, which is great, you have like 100seeders uploading at max bandwidth to you and maybe 1 other guy... buy you only have that one other guy to upload to... ratio goes down the toilet :S
Like a Pro-Noun... Except different.
Moderation is key Pro-Nub. There is a challenge to build a ratio up at a private site, but once you do, it is well worth it. In addition, depending on which site you joined up to, eventually you won't have any wait times. Therefore you can be one of those first people to jump on a torrent and then help seed to others.

yeah, like cldnails said build your ratio way up so you wont have to worry about it. a good thing to do to help your ratio is to find the most popular torrent on the site(preferably a movie) and download the sample and a rar or two and then just seed it for a couple of days. this will boost your ratio way up or at least get you out of the toilet.![]()
i think i understand your posts...i have my upload limit set at 500% and always go the full limit but my download speed is way slow... only a few times did i go over 100 my average is 25 with some running at 1-5.. where it takes 48 hours to dl a 1gig file...my upload speed is always twice the download..how can i reverse it... it irks me to be uploading at 70 and olny getting 15-30 for the download...
what can i do??
what is your max upload given to you by your ISP? limit your upload in preferences to 80% of whatever your max is. you can read about this in the speed problems guide. this will help your dwnload.
STICK IT TO THOSE NOOBS THAT DONT KNOW ANY BETTER!!!
btw, if you are stuck with pub trackies make sure the app/program/movie that you want, has the most seeders... it has always taken down my download time a little bit. But as for the great great great post in the #1 spot... need say no more.
I have read all the messages about download and upload speeds. One message says if I have ADSL to limit the upload to 80% of my maxium speed. I have broadband by modem and my speed is 2.2 mbps, do I limit the upload speed to 80% of that or can anyone suggest what kps to limit it too. All help gratefully received.
Cheers
David
You need to limit the upload speed to 80% of the upload speeds maximum (not 80% of the download speeds maximum). Read the stickys for step-by-step instructions on how to do this.Originally Posted by Blackrider
I have read some of common questions.... but not sure if I there is something I can do to increase my upload speed. I have dl one file and thought to be nice and seed it, all seems to work fine, I am uploading at a whooping 12kbs to 21 peers right now, and it is rock solid. Nothing I've done so far has raised it much. Tried setting to more slots (auto was 3-5) tried setting a minimum upload on the task and so forth.... nada.
I think this is a public tracker and I figured that it would just suck my upload right up if i wanted. Hmmmm. the speedtest says i have around 100kbs upload speed and 600-ish download.
when uploading you have to consider if their leech bandwith is saturated for other things and also other uploaders taking away your juice. 100/8 = 12Originally Posted by boy
