    Port forwarding

Just a general statement here: If somebody needs help setting up portforwarding on their router they should go to http://www.portforward.com. They have information on how to do it for routers of a whole bunch of different makes and models. Of course, it would help you out a lot if you actually knew the make and model of your router.

I heared that the more u upload the better the speed become but this BALONY. my upload rate is really good (compared to others uplaod) but my download sucks. I have a 100Mbps conection and downloading one F***ING cd takes more than 30 hours. THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING THAT I CAN DO TO GET BETTER SPEED.
I heared that BIT TORNADO is really good but I don't want to change my client, so there has to be something can be done to raise the downlaod rate from 3kbps to at least 200kbps.
I would really apprecaite any recomendations

    Speeds

No Idea how this worked but recently switched from Overnet to BC. I did a new install of BC and instantly got D/L of 100-150 KB/s and U/L cap themselves at around 80-100 KB/s. My D/L is no limit, my U/L is no limit. My internet connection is Cable 5 mega bits. Only tweaking I did in preferences were the following

    Max Sim D/L tasks: 30
    Max Connections per task: 1000

    BitComet 0.56 is running on:
    CPU : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ 2202 MHz
    RAM size : 1,022.73 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

I have no idea what that last error is but it obviously doesn't seem to hinder it. I did run the SP2 patch to open more ports though.

    Good luck

Probably some bug in the BC calculations. I think 550 - max downloads should mean - downloading 550 files at the same time.... ?! not logical...

Did you really measure it ?

i'm on 256/64. dloads of 26k?/s when dloading from, 4 eg, download.com. i tried azureus, probly didn't spend enough time with it as i was getting dial-up speeds & i'm now trying bc, which has improved to 12-14k?/s average, although it started at dial-up speed. from what i've read, this is normal. i currently have set global max dload to 25 & upload to 10, everything else is 'as installed' or default. i'm hoping to get 25k?/s dload. i'm gunna keep fukin with the settings as this is all that i've made from this thread. if it doesn't work or when i get the shits with it, i'll try another one.(bit-torrent perhaps).

your max possible DL = 256\8 = 32K*B*/s. I think you should set your UL limit to less then about 4KB/s in BC.

I think he means max download rate of 550kb/s.

Anyway, Im having the same "problem" . I've been using BitComet for a little less than a week, and have doubled my download speeds. I've got a 3 MB / 512kB connection, so I limit my upload to around 45kb/s. My download speeds have reached 475kb/s, with an average download rate of 280 kb/s. The thing is, the speeds it is reporting must be right, because I'm downloading huge files in less than an hour.
Plus, whenever I start downloading a torrent with only one seeder and hundreds of leachers, my speeds shoot up right from the start to over 300 kb/s until I catch up with the leaders. No matter how far ahead someone is, I am always one of the first to download the file.

Using the patch and setting your half open tcp ports to 40, make sure you limit your upload speeds to around 80% of your maximum, change "max connections per task" to 1000, you'll find few torrents with more than 500 peers to connect to, so use your discrection on that.

I am downloading at the very maximum and on occasion, over the max that my provider claims ( 375 kb/s or so is about the max ). BitComet rules.

thanx rafi_d. reducing my uload limit to suit my connection has improved my dload speeds. it still varies, from 10 to 18 k?/s . also changed max conn's per task to 1000. a definite improvement ! did jump to 24 !javascript:emoticon('') currently on 15.

Speed Problem Fixed.. but now how to I choose a fast file?

So I've read all the articles on the speed improvement and I've made all the adjustments.

    1. Open the ports on my router
    2. Run the WinXP SP2 patch
    3. Tweak UL/DL ratio in my BITCOMET program

I orginally thought that it still didn't work, I was downloading about 3-4 movie files each of them going at 0-5kb. My Kb's at the top of the screen said 15-20 kbs sometimes, which isn't bad but that was only because I was downloading 3-4 files and it was the total of all files. Each file was still moving quite slowly (0-5kb).

Then all of a sudden I tried a new file and got quite a stretch of the file tranfers speed crossing 175kb for a short period of time, then it dropped to about 15kb and maintained. My total transfer speed between multiple files just jumped to 200+ for that short time. So I realized that the settings are correct.

Now my question is how do I go about choosing a torrent that is fast to download. I know that everyone says choose the one with the most number of seeds, but that doesn't seem to work. I chose a file that has 200+ seeds but my fastest file only had about 186+. What's the secret? or is there none? Is it just by chance that hopefully the other users have alloacted enough UL speed in their torrent clients?
