OK i have come to the conclusion that bitcomet purely sucks.

I have tried everything in my knowledge and anything ANY of you have suggested and still only get 40-60KBps when in azureus I get 350-440 KB/sec

This makes no sense, if anyone does know a solution that would be helpful seeing I like how bitcomet doesnt take as much resources as az.

    super slow

Ok my friend told me to check bit comet out and my download is only 10 kbs download and my upload is 50 kbs what is up with that? Sorry but if this is the only alternative to Bearshare, eMule, shareaza, and kazaa then you might as well shut this project down.

It's very annoying to know that your allowed to send twice as much as you receive. I even turned off all firewall setting's restarted my computer and it didn't change a damn thing.

    Um.. yah..

Anyways, I do noticed the slowness with BC, and I'm wondering what seems to be the hold back.

For example, there seems to be some sort of cap on the speed your download with reference to the UL/DL ratio. My UL/DL ratio never drops below 0.5 (before), and now it never drops below (0.. It is sort of frustrating because BC is a great client (i like the fact that it doesn't need to hash to resume a download). Slightly better with the memory usage.

Is there any noteworthy advise for us people stuck at 30kbps whereas using another client we could go up to 120kbps.

Also note, I have a traffic monitor system on my computer. BC mislabeled kbps with kBps, because it's still transfer at kbps.

    BitComet is fast

You guys are n00b if you are getting a low downloading speed!

BitComet is the only program that download to fast...

Yes you read right to fast...My littlebrother is always complaining because BitComet is downloading to fast and he cant play his online games...

Than never happened with Kazaa or the other cliens, Kazaa is slow and crappy.

If you get a slow download speed you have spyware on your PC!

We all have good speeds not like with eMule! eMule cant download fast if you have a router!
    Hej alle sammen...

I thought I was getting crappy speeds too, but I'm actually getting 40KB/s overall which = 320 kb/s (not bad).

That is the way I understand it.

    You are apsolutely correct
i thought tht i was getting slow speeds but in ižtime i figured it out. I'm getting 50kB/s which for 1024/256 kbit quite good.

so guys be carefull about saying bit or byte
    BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!

I'm auditioning BC .55 stable right now.
It _IS_ slower. For example I'd just previously been downloading 3 torrents with burst!, getting avg. 140KBYTES/s.

I stopped those 3 torrents, installed BC .55 stable, restarted those same 3 torrents with BC (about 10 minutes after stopping them on burst!). Result: avg. 42KBYTES/s
I've tried changing U/L speeds also, but even same exact speeds in burst! are far slower in BC.

It's an asym cable conn, speed-check confirms it runs @ 256kbps up, 2500 kbps down. (speed-check done immediately after seeing BC get 42kB/s, and stopped). I have router with port-forwarding set up corrently, I'm not a n00b at this sort of stuff and find nothing wrong except with (something unique to) BC. yes the listening port is also forwarded. OS is win2ksp4, it's clean, no spyware/trojans/etc, the box is devoted to ONLY torrents ever since the clean OS install. 1GHz P3, 256MB mem, 40GB HDD mostly empty, it's loafing around waiting for BC to pick up the pace. There is nothing else taking away bandwidth, which I know from surveying LAN and that the speed test and burst! both far exceed what BC is getting.

The only other thing noteworthy was that it has a Realtek 8139 NIC, so I changed to the VPN driver and removed/reinstalled the network driver as others have suggested.

My mistake, when I just wrote "BC .55 stable", i meant 0.56 stable

This Post Covers :- Download Speeds , SpyWare and Ports

OK, 1st thing is first. just becasue u have 512K Boardband or Adsl or anything u will not get 512kbp/s download. its the same with anything. 256,512,750,1mbit..ect. TAKE YOUR BOARDBAND SPEED (512) DEVIDE IT BY 8 THATS YOUR MAX DOWNLOAD SPEED. now even that is in noob talk.

2nd. Spyware creating low download rates. i really doubt that, but it is a possiiblity and the chances are if u have kazaa or any downloader like that you HAVE spyware on your pc. i recommend Pestpatrol to remove them from your pc.

3rd. Ports, this is the problem if any1 here has a router or switch your likly to have ports. think of ports like the lanes on a motorway the more you have open the more cars you can get on the road.so if u have a router with only 1 of X amount of ports that bitcomet uses open. your restricing your download speed, its just like closing lanes on the motor way. this will result in low download speeds. this is the problem i have atm, i am new to bitcomet and am not aware of the ports it uses, making it hard for me to forward them on my router. so i any1 knows them...it would be useful.

BC only uses one listening port. And that's configurable (when you open up the options menu, it's right there at the bottom of the menu). Set it to whatever you want. If BC doesn't automatically map a port for itself, then you'll have to configure your firewall/router/switch to forward that port to your computer.

Getting the best rates in BC is far from an exact science. You're all probably going to have to do some tinkering with the various connection settings before you "max out."

However, here are some general suggestions (that means no guarantees) that could help with low D/L rates. Note: I'm assuming that you're all smart enough to only use healthy torrents when you're testing.

    Here we go:

Make sure routers and firewalls are properly configured (and that BitComet itself is configured to use that configuration correctly). Don't tell me that you've already done this, because I don't care. CHECK IT AGAIN.

Increase the maximum number of connections per task.

Increase the global maximum U/L rate (but NOT above about 80% of your max).

Reduce non-BC bandwidth consumption (turn off crap like emule, Kazaa, gnutella, WASTE, or anything else you have running that consumes alot of bandwidth).

Uninstall or disable QoS if you're running programs that use it (eg. MSN Messenger).

Optimize your tcp/ip settings for your internet connection (there are programs all over the web that will do this for you. Google is your friend.).

Randomize your listening port (ISPs increasingly like to throttle BitTorrent's default range).

If you're running Windows XP SP2, download the hack to boost the maximum allowed number of simultaneous tcp/ip connection attempts to at least 50 and remember to configure BC accordingly.

Clean up any spyware you might have downloaded (use Adaware, Spybot S&D, or just do a clean install of Windows).

    And there you have it.

    open ports & sp2

i don't know if i can really help you, but all i can tell you is that you have to FIND A WAY TO CONFIGURE YOUR FIREWALL such that it allows incoming connections by OPENING YOUR PORTS.

(This could be on your router or your PC)

So find your firewall settings and look for options like "PORT FORWARDING" or "SHARING" or anything along those lines. bittorrent uses these ports: 6881 to 6999.

if you still don't know and got time to do some reading, i suggest you (or anyone looking to configure their firewall) go to this page:

    http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/24.html

if you just wanna check if ur ports are open go here:
    https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
    -click on "Proceed"
-on the blue box there that says "ShieldsUp!! Services"
type a port range like: 6881-6889. then click on "User Specified Custom Port Probe".
-scroll down to the Port Table there, if the STATUS column say "CLOSED" or "OPEN" then you are good to go. if it it says "STEALTH", you need to configure your firewall.
